Obituary for Marie (nee Miller) Grubb

October 9, 2020
Cheltenham, Pennsylvania

Marie Grubb (nee Miller), of Cheltenham, PA, passed away on October 9th after an almost four year courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 56 years old. She is preceded in death by her mother, Florence Egan (nee Smith), and stepfather Richard Egan. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 38 years, Carl Grubb; daughters Kristin (Bob), Ashley (Gary), Nicole (Erik), and Jessica (Tim); grandchildren Nolan, Mason, Lydia, Reese, Bobby, Kelsey, and Griffin; sister Terri; brothers Walt (Kim), George, Jimmy; many siblings-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

Born in Philadelphia in July, 1964, Marie attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and Cardinal Dougherty High School (Class of 1982). She resided in the Melrose Park, East Oak Lane, and Olney neighborhoods. It was while in high school in 1981 when Marie met Carl. They married shortly thereafter and began their family. The loving family that they grew together was Marie's greatest accomplishment. They moved to Cheltenham in 1993.

Marie was always active in her community as a coach and volunteer at both Olney Midget and Teen League and Cheltenham Little League. She loved working as a parent volunteer and coach at her kids' school (St. James in Elkins Park), as a nursery school teacher (Salem Zion in Olney), as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and as a librarian. She worked as an Office Manager/Tax Preparer for a CPA until her diagnosis in 2016.

Marie was a Philadelphia sports phanatic: watching and attending games with family was one of her favorite things to do. Growing up, she loved playing softball, which was a passion that was shared by her husband and daughters. Additionally, she loved listening to music and attending concerts (Carl and Marie attended hundreds of concerts together). Marie had a talent for crafting and decorating the house for every holiday. She loved being outside planting, gardening, and bird watching. Most importantly, she loved being a mom and grandmom. She truly enjoyed life's special moments with her loved ones especially kitchen dance parties and watching AFV with her grandchildren.

Family, friends, and those whose lives Marie has touched are invited to attend services on Saturday, October 24th, 2020 at Presentation BVM Church, 105 Old Soldiers Road, Cheltenham PA 19012. Visitation will be held at 9am followed by mass at 10am.

Marie's family would like to offer sincere thanks and gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and aides at both the Fox Chase Cancer Center and Holy Redeemer Home Care and Hospice for the wonderful care that Marie received during her fight.
